Perfection is not Perfect

Perfection

nobody-deserves-to-be-perfectWhat is perfecfection ? It’s being without flaw or defects, but that is not a human trait that is an object that has been created. Not one person or group in this world is ever perfect except perfect in their own way. There is always so much pressure to be perfect to what others perceive to be “Perfect”. Elder Cecil O. Samuelson suggests “Those suffering from perfectionism tend to be wonderful, contributing, and effective people, and yet may feel that no matter what they do, it is never enough.” In my opinion, perfect is being happy with who you are, to the eyes of yourself and no one else. Why is perfection so important in our world of imperfection?

Many people believe if they have the perfect body, perfect lives, or perfect personality that they will be loved and admired for just that, instead of loved and admired for being themselves; feeling unworthy. According to Brené Brown of University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, “Perfectionism is the belief that if we live perfect, look perfect, and act perfect, we can minimize or avoid the pain of blame, judgment, and shame. ”

There is beauty in everyone, those that are kind and friendly, those that experience life in their own way, are perfect people.

Picasso is one of my favorite artists because his art is not perfect, meaning the shapes and sizes are not in perfect relation; however, they are perfect because he created something beautiful that is an expression of his creativity.

Therefore, no matter what you do in life, it’s how you live it that makes you perfect and perfection only is achieved by fulfilling your happiness of how you perceive your personal world.

Natural

Finding the YOU in natural is like finding a needle in a hay stack. I’ve gone through so many interests that never stuck or I never finished. I got bored easily, even though they struck my interest. When things got hard or boring I always quit, never could I figure out why or what to do with myself. So, how do you find your natural self? My thought, now being a 34-year-old mother of 3, was to explore my interests and show my kids that no matter how hard things get, if it’s something you want to pursue, than stick with it; next, if you have more than one interest than you should follow all of them. Eventually, everything your interested in can become one in a great career and life paths. Writing, technology,  and creating projects are the main interests I have.

First, being free of rules and guidelines in writing is “natural” for me, I have taken 3 different writing classes, starting with grammar, yet it doesn’t stick with me very well. When I want to write for fun, it feels more natural than when I try to follow all the rules and guidelines. It took me a full week to write a paragraph describing a place I call Utopia, that’s not the real name. Even though I was pleased with my grade I get in my writing classes, I wouldn’t want to write school papers forever, it is very stressful because I over think and then get frustrated. It’s all about following your natural self instead of following what others think your should be or think you should do.

Second, when the internet started becoming a thing in people’s homes, it was like I had always been around computers. I taught myself how to get around email, the web, and instant messengers. The feeling of being just right, I was meant to be around technology. For pleasure, I would create webpages that were pretty much journals; however, the design behind the webpages is what struck my interests. Making a webpage that had cool colors and different themes was fun. Now, I am trying to find myself again in the new age of technology, it’s been 10 years since I played around with any type of webpages or writing. When I was pregnant with my first child, I wanted to be a nurse; then, taking 5 years off of work and school to take care of 2 more children I had, I decided I wanted to learn Computers. The first step that I took, getting my AAS for Computer Information Systems  (work in progress), I want to know how computers and the web work behind the scenes. Moreover, I also found a few sites that can teach you how to program, among a free course website that offers multiple classes, which are self paced, while being able to get certified when you’ve completed the class. Edx.org, scratch, codeacademy, and code.org these are places that I have been going to in order to learn how to program. All of this is just the beginning for me, I have only just started my way to being my natural self.

This smiley is my first code project in scratch, it looks easy, and might be for some; however, for me nothing is easy at first. It was a lot of fun creating this and accomplishing a project that was hard, I was very happy.

Finally, how do you become a natural in this vast changing world? You explore all your interests and complete them, with all your “Natural” tools that are inside of yourself. The only way to become happy in life is by being someone who “YOU” can be happy with.

New Era for Technology

Technology is an extension of our creativity and power. With advances in medicine down to the rooms of elementary kids, computers are a part of everybody’s life.  Advances in the medical field has changed society in numerous ways, there are pacemakers that help the heart pump, bionic limbs that can help bring sensation to your body, and much more advances in medicine. Here is a video of a lady trying on her new bionic hand.

As you can see there is no limit to what we can create when it comes to technology, it is fascinating to see people being able to come back to a full self with a new prosthetic that is more than medical; it’s TECHNICAL!

There are classes that can be taken online for K-12 grade students, on this site you can determine whether online homeschooling is right for you and your child; moreover, community colleges and university’s are offering more and more classes online. When I started school in 2007, I took my first few courses on campus and did very well; however, when I took chemistry on campus I felt uneasy because I didn’t understand the material at all. The following semester they had offered chemistry online and that’s when I fell in love with online classes. I had received an A in that online chemistry class and it was invigorating, the way the online class was taught was with PowerPoint slides and on campus labs every Friday. From that point on I have tried to take as many of my classes online; although, I still don’t get complete A’s in all my online class, but I do better understanding the material when I can study at my own pace. Edx is an online course provider, which has courses available to either take for extra knowledge or complete the course to get certified, I am starting a programming course through Edx and so far I am really enjoying it. There isn’t a wide range of what I would call “natural classes”; however, there are, Psych, Tech, Business, and a few other courses. Shimon Schocken explains how taking an online course is beneficial to education, not to replace traditional schools, but to enhance peoples learning in school.

Therefore, no matter where your mind takes you or what your goal is, you have the world at your fingertips with so many resources available offline and on. Continue reading
